Gravity Feed Steam Irons
Additional Information: "Gravity feed irons have been around over 50 years so they are a proven ironing system for dry cleaners and dressmakers, the original customers. The first ones were made in USA (Sussman), Japan (Naomoto and Hashima) and Korea (Silver Star) and cost up to $500+ each. Now they are made in China and start at $100. The cost of service or parts like solenoids are $75 each plus shipping, so it is now less expensive to replace the irons than to repair them. If you change the demineralizer when the color changes to dark, the irons will last longer without need for service. We recommend the $99.99 irons which will cost less over time even with replacements than the original irons now cost from Japan. Sad to say they are no longer being manufactured in the USA. Hope this information helps in you decision making." John Douthat, Owner Tech.Gravity Feed Irons only have steam holes at the front by design. Steaming should be done slightly above the fabric, just before pressing strokes with a then dry soleplate which also helps to remove moisture. Steam is only required to relax the fibers before pressing dry. If you steam at the same time while using pressing strokes, it will add too much moisture to the fabric and cool the iron soleplate down. Gravity feed irons do not have continuous steam boilers, so steaming should be done intermittently between pressing strokes, not constantly. That way the iron soleplate and steam chamber does not have a chance to cool down and spit out condensation.
(Q)I have a small art business. I need to iron a lot of wool sweaters. I don't need an iron for delicate fabrics. What is the difference between the gravity fed iron and the steam generating iron? (Q)What is dry steam? (A)THE HIGHER THE TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE OF THE STEAM GENERATING BOILER, THE LESS HUMIDITY IS IN THE STEAM.
How to Use Gravity Feed Irons: 1. Hang bottle approximately 40 inches above the pressing surface. 2. Connect the silicone hose to the iron and bottle. 3. Empty demineralizer package into the bottle and fill it with tap water only. 4. Tie the electrical cord and hose together. 5. Plug the iron cord into a grounded electrical outlet. 6. Set the temperature dial on NO. 4 and let the iron heat up for ten minutes. 7. Open the bottle valve and allow the hose to fill with water by pressing the steam switch. The iron is now ready for use. 8. When not pressing, place the iron on the supplied iron rest. Do not stand on its back!
Our irons are all for industrial use. Some major parts are UL/CE approved (ex: 151504 thermostat), but as a whole, it's not. Even if it were UL/CES approved as a whole, it is not wise to use industrial irons in homes. The functionings of home irons and industrial irons are different. For instance, home irons have a function to automatically cut off the electricity if the iron falls over. It may even make a sound or beep while industrial irons do not have such function. Why? The manufacturers make home products with far more care because they have much higher possibility of causing fire or electrical shock from lack of knowledge of how use properly. The manufacturers are not responsible for the problem that was caused by carelessness of the users. Home users of industrial irons should be aware safety precautions.
