1 Feed Pin part # 138483-001 Note: Comes installed in the Machine,
and can be found illustrated on page 10 (part # 50) of the parts manual, and on page 14 of the instruction manual. The drop feed lever has to be engaged in the pin feed position before you will see it come up when you turn the handwheel 360 degrees. Also, note the pin drops automatically whenever the presser foot is raised (safety feature).

Comparisons

Juki TL-98, TL2000, and TL2010 sewing machines are almost identical to the Brother PQ-1500S, except the Brother has exclusive pin feeding mechanism, a longer 7 mm versus 6 mm stitch length, and several extra feet (invisible zipper and fabric separating foot). Juki has an exclusive foot control switch for auto thread trim and raising needle all in one operation (saves time) Both machines do equally well straight seaming, but have varied in past free motion quilting performance which has been corrected. They were first manufactured as straight stitch sewing machines, but customers bought them also for free motion quilting. The needle clearances have been improved for free motion to prevent skipping and shredding. Brother also has a heavier duty walking foot attachment. The Juki TL98 was made in Japan and the Brother PQ1500S is made in Taiwan. The new Juki 2000Qi and 2010Q are made in Shanghai. Janome 1600P is made in Taiwan.

Why does my needle thread break on freemotion when straight stitch sewing is fine.
For freemotion quilting on a frame, please try Schmetz Size 16 Denim needles, A&E Signature cotton quilting thread, fabric pressure guage at 1/2 way (down or up on the window gauge),and make sure the quilt is down flat against the flatbed of the machine so fabric won't ride up and down on the needle (flagging). Also run the machine faster and move the fabric slower, so the needle won't bend in the fabric. Also feel for any needle burrs on the rotary hook, needle plate or bobbin case that might catch thread. Burrs can be polished off with Crocus cloth from the hardware stores. Please advise what works or doesn't work for you. John Douthat, Owner & Tech.

Althought I just received my PQ1500S today, I am thrilled with it. I bought it for quilting on a frame but know I will be using it for piecing also. It is strongly built. Sewed absolutely perfectly out of the box. I tried the free motion quilting foot and it worked perfect. You don't need a stitch regulator with this guy, it sews perfectly. I had black thread on top and white in the bobbin and NO WHITE showed on top. I can't do this with my Bernina 440QE. I ordered this machine on May 1 (late at night) and it was on my door step (on the west coast) on the am of May 4 - and that was free shipping. I am so impressed with Allbrands customer service also. Always answered my questions and were very friendly. I am recommending this machine to all my quilting friends.
