You may leave edges unfinished, but if you choose to sew through, make sure that the Lite Steam-A-Seam 2® is fully fused with a steam iron - 30+ sec and let set before sewing.
When laundering, avoid using fabric softener. Fabric softener chemicals erode the fusible web over time.
5 Easy Steps for Appliqué
Steam iron or pre-wash to remove sizing and other treatments from fabrics for best performance. Always set your iron temperature for the type of fabric you will use. Sewing is not required to finish the edges but if desired, Steam-A-Seam 2 will not gum up your needle. The paper liner makes an ideal tear away stabilizer.
Step 1 - Trace or Print your design in REVERSE onto the grid paper. Before sending Steam-A-Seam 2 sheets through your ink-jet printer, cut them to size (8.5" x 11"). Do not use with a laser printer.
Tips for Using Steam-A-Seam 2 with Wool
To use Steam-A-Seam 2 or Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 with wool, or any dense and sensitive material, you need to iron press both the front and back of your design. If available, using a steam iron is recommended. Since the "wool" iron setting is a low temperature, you must iron press for a longer amount of time, until the Steam-A-Seam webbing is properly fused. Please use caution as it is possible to burn wool fibers - do not iron press in one area for too long. Press for 45+ seconds and let it set to cool.

What is it? – Appliqué . As a noun it’s an amazing and beautiful fiber art form. As a verb, appliqué refers to the addition of subordinate decorative fabric motifs to a larger, supporting piece of fabric. It has applications to quilting, fashion, home décor and crafts. Appliqué can be elegant or simple and it can create real world, geometric or abstract schemes. By designed intention it can relate a story or simply project a meaningful image. It’s all up to you. And when you consider your creative medium is a seemingly unending array of available and ever evolving fabric colors, patterns and textures, it’s clear that your creative work is cut out for you. Well, actually you have to cut it out and then do the appliqué part. The creative process is the fun, even inspiring part. Putting it all together exactly as you’ve envisioned it can be more of a challenge. There are three primary methods to attach our fabric designs to our base fabric. Traditional applique turns and sews down the seam allowances of our motifs to that base. Sew and turn applique is a technique that uses a motif made of two identical pieces sewn right sides together and then turned inside out revealing smooth edges that are then attached to our base fabric. And, lastly, we have fusible applique. Perhaps the easiest and most direct method, fusible applique eliminates the need for seam allowances or duplicate shapes. The fusible material allows us to easily and precisely press our motif shapes onto our base fabric. More time creating and less time spent in frustration and tedium. What does it do? - Wonder Fuse was developed by Clover as a premium fusible fabric especially well-suited for appliqué in all forms.
It’s an amazingly lightweight, paper backed fusible.

Produces edges that are always clean and smooth. No loose fibers of any weight left to deal with.

How do I share it? - By design, Wonder Fuse is ideally suited for quilting, fashion, home decor or crafting applications. Creative expression is the goal of most sewers. We’re all happy to leave the frustration and tedium of that process behind. Wonder Fuse allows us to do that. Provide some killer samples for your friends to see and then use mini-classes and in-store demonstrations to show them that their most lofty creative intentions are easily within reach. If you’re into appliqué you need to be into Wonder Fuse.
Wonder Fuse is very easy to use. Instructions are as follows.
Reverse and trace your applique design creating a mirror image on the release paper side of Wonder Fuse. Cut fusible web slightly larger than the traced piece.
Place fusible web (rough side) on the wrong side of the fabric. Use hot, dry iron and press for 5-8 seconds. *Note: always check your iron temperature with the fusible before you begin your work. Heavier fabric will require more time.
After temperature cools down, cut applique to size, following outlines drawn on the paper backing. Once the paper is cut to size, go ahead and peel off paper backing.
Place applique with the fusible web side down onto your project. Grab your hot. dry iron again to fuse applique to the background fabric. Optional: use a pressing sheet to prevent from damaging the fabric.
Something to keep in mind: Always pretest a swatch of fabric to ensure it is compatible with Wonder Fuse.

Back is the foundation for all great embroidery designs. It provides stability and keeps the material from shifting during stitching. Because there are almost as many different backings as there are applications, Exquisite offers a complete line to meet all of your embroidery needs.
The key to great embroidery is equal tensions on the fabric in all directions while the fabric is in the emboirdery hoop. Ideally, a taut, tambourine feel should be achieved. This way, for each movement of the embroidery achine, you will have an equal movement of the fabric. Most Exquisite backings are made from non-directional materials, providing equal tension in all directions, and have silicone to help lubricate the needle during embroidery, minimizing thread breaks.
When deciding which backing to use, consider the fabric on which the design is being stitched, the stitch count and the density of the design. Since different fabrics require different support or stabilization- the more stretch in the fabric, the more stabilizer required. However, thicker is not necessarily more stable. In addition, multiple layers of stabilizer may not add any stability. A single layer of Exquisite stabilizer is usually all that is needed.

When deciding which backing to use, consider the fabric on which the design is being stitched, the stitch count and the density of the design. Since different fabrics require different support or stabilization- the more stretch in the fabric, the more stabilizer required. However, thicker is not necessarily more stable. In addition, multiple layers of stabilizer may not add any stability. A single layer of Exquisite stabilizer is usually all that is needed. Back is the foundation for all great embroidery designs. How to use Fusible Mesh Cut-Away
Ideal for performance wear knits, this cut-away eliminates the stretching in the hoop as your embroidery machine stitches. By ironing the fusible mesh to the shell fabric, you can stop puckering from ruining your design!
Just follow these simple steps:
1. Set your iron to a low or medium setting - about 260 degree silk setting.
2. Before placing your garment in the hoop, iron or heat press the cut-away stabilizer with its shiny side against the back of your material.
3. Use only a dry iron – NO STEAM! Apply the heat to the top of your garment and not the side with the stabilizer. Fusible mesh begins to liquefy when heat is applied, so you want to always heat the top and not the side with the mesh. This way the mesh will flow into your material to provide stability.
4. Do not move the garment around. Simply press the iron and push down for 10-15 seconds with about 45 pounds of pressure. This will start the bonding process.
5. After the fusible mesh has bonded, hoop the garment and bonded mesh being careful not to separate the two. You will see that the stitching does not stretch the fabric and there is no puckering.
6. Once your design is completed, remove the garment from the hoop and physically cut the mesh away. Immediately peel it back and trim it. You can reheat the mesh to be able to peel it back easily.
