Specifications
This foot allows you to sew along acrylic quilting templates (rulers) that are 1/4 inch thick to create decorative quilting designs such as lines, feathers, circles etc. The height of the foot’s sole makes it possible to quilt along all the edges of these rulers. The #72 foot is for BERNINA domestic machines new style. Old style BERNINA machines need to use the BERNINA #77 Adaptor Shank (old style) with a Westalee Low Shank Ruler Foot.

With this technique, the feed dog is lowered and the fabric with the acrylic ruler is guided manually with the base of the foot resting against the edge of the ruler. Due to the adjustment dial, the height of the foot can be adjusted to match the fabric thickness individually so that the fabric can be moved smoothly without getting stuck. Moreover, the additional option provided by the adjustable foot height extends the scope of applications for BERNINA sewing machines without the function ‘automatic presser foot pressure/presser foot height.’

In this video we show you step by step how to prepare your BERNINA machine and how to use the ruler foot with to create attractive lines and curves – with unparalleled precision.

The high-sided edge allows precise quilting around all edges of the template. The adjustment dials wheel allows the height of the presser foot to be customised to the thickness of the quilt. This means that the ruler foot can also be used with BERNINA sewing machines which do not offer the option for adjusting presser foot height. A patented invention exclusively from BERNINA!

Markings on the presser foot help to produce accurate seams. The notch at the front of the ruler foot allows you to keep an eye on your work at all times. The curved base of the foot glides smoothly over the fabric and allows the fabric to pass through evenly – for sewing and quilting results of the highest standard.

We‘ve received inquiries whether the foot
# 72 (adjustable ruler foot) will become
available for selection in the 820 and the
710 machines.
Please be aware, unfortuantlly there are
no plans for updating these models.
For the other retired products (i.e. 830
780), the last update incl. foot 72 was
launched due to the Midi-Hoop.

Be sure to check that the adaptor really fits your machine. I told the worker which Bernina I had and he chose the adaptor. Unfortunately, when it arrived I pit away and didn't try it till much later. It did not fit. When I called to see how to return or exchange it I was informed of the 30-day return policy. I get it- I should have checked. My fault. But I'd counted on the vendor to sell me the right thing.
