A little ditty about Susybee
Once upon a time (at the exact moment Paul Henderson scored the
winning goal for team Canada in the 1972 ‘Summit Series’)
a freckled baby girl burst into the world,
determined to make her mark in some way. That was me!
I spent years and years doodling — on every surface and not always
very well. I faced ample rejection (no, I didn’t get in to art school)
and numerous setbacks (I was told I’d never be a ‘professional’ artist)
along the way, but I slowly discovered the wonderful world of Susybee
living in my imagination and things have never been the same. One by
one each of these silly and loveable characters came to life, and
together we’ve been painting the world with smiles.
I’ve shared my art and these characters in many ways — most notably
with paintings and murals in children’s hospitals. I’ve been inspired
and encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive feedback and have
realized just how many people connect with the simple joy and gentle
humour found in their world.
So even on the greyest of days, or the darkest of moments, this cast
of funny friends will find ways to make all of us giggle. In their world,
nothing is perfect or impossible and they have a way of finding the
humour in life no matter what —
something we all can learn from.
I am so excited for all that is to come for the World of Susybee!
Everyday items with designs to make you smile. It’s that simple.
