How do I install the hand wheel so that it does not slip
There is a washer between the hand wheel and the hand wheel screw(big silver and often referred to as hand wheel clutch) the outside of this washer has three tabs and the inside has two. The two inside tabs are raised and the washer should be positioned so that they are pointed or raised away from the machine or to the right if you are sitting in front of the machine. It can often be difficult to get the hand wheel screw all the way on with out the washer falling off of the shaft, this is why most people put the washer on backward because it stays on the shaft better when its on backward. If you stand the machine on its end, hand wheel up, you should be able to install the washer with no problem. Once you have the hand wheel screw tight you can then install the small retainer screw. Now you need to test it with the retainer screw installed you should be able to tighten the hand wheel screw enough so that you do not get any slippage and if you turn the hand wheel screw counter clockwise 1/3 turn you should be able to wind a bobbin with out the main shaft of the machine running. If this is not the case the you must stand the machine on its end(hand wheel up) remove the retainer screw and the hand wheel screw then take the washer off of the shaft and rotate it 180 degrees then reinstall the hand wheel screw, tighten it all the way with you hand just snug, then the retainer screw, and test it again.

I have wanted a NON-electronic Singer for years. I found it on your site and ordered it. It arrived QUICKLY. It is heavy as the dickens: solid metal. It can hand operate by simply turning the wheel or with the attached hand crank. This is the perfect machine for those who are camping, MUST sew, and do NOT have electricity. It is also perfect if you MUST sew, and your power is out. I just spent a week camping and was able to continue to sew for the grandkids while camping on the mountain. It was awesome when I told my husband I was taking my "machine" to the mountain. It came with UPS, and he realized that it was for "real." So I took it to the mountain and actually sewed a dress for my granddaughter and a towel for my grandson. This machine is also for sewing articles that must be sewn with accuracy: one stitch at a time such as iron on patches that cannot be done with an electronic machine because they cannot be controlled as well as the manual machine. I love the bentwood case. I have my grandmother's tredle machine that was purchased in 1928 still in the original case. I have wanted one that was workable for years. Now I have one. And it was EXTREMELY reasonbly priced. I love it . Thank you so much for making it available.
