It sews a straight stitch at 1,600 stitches per minute, the fastest on the market. From the new "Liquid Response" foot control to the pre-tension system, everything on this machine is built for high quality stitches at professional speeds. But while it gives you the performance of an industrial machine, it also gives you the quiet operation and sleek design of a Janome.

An extra large 9" x 5" work area gives you room for the largest projects. A knee lift lets you raise the presser foot while keeping your hands on your work. An independent motor allows you to wind bobbins while you're sewing. And 10.5 lbs. of presser foot pressure ensures that your layers of fabric won't shift, making it an ideal quilting machine.

Janome's 1600P Straight-Stitch Series Delivers Serious Speed To The Home Market High speed straight stitch machines: 1600P, 1600P-DBX, and 1600P-DB The 1600P, 1600P-DBX, and 1600P-DB offer consumers a range of features MAHWAH, N.J. – Sewing at up to 1,600 stitches per minute, the new 1600P Straight Stitch Series from Janome has the fastest straight stitch on the home market. But more important than being twice as fast as any home machine, the 1600 Professional Series offers power and performance without the awkward bulk and noise of industrial models. Quilters, designers, decorators and seamstresses can enjoy professional grade results with Janome precision and quality. These machines are even tough and reliable enough for the heavy use of dry cleaning and tailoring/alteration shops. The 1600P Series machines offer a variety of time-saving features like an independent bobbin winding motor (so you can sew while you're winding bobbins); an automatic thread cutter; a side-loading, industrial rotary hook and threading diagrams printed on the machine itself. The presser foot can hold your fabric with an ultra firm 11 lbs. of pressure. And a thread pre-tension regulator keeps thread feeding smoothly at the highest of speeds. The 1600P series represents a new milestone in precision engineering. For a sewing machine to make a single stitch, dozens of parts must move in close synchronization. For a machine to sew at a rate of just ten stitches per second, those same parts must move with almost perfect precision. So it's truly a technical breakthrough when a machine can stitch at nearly 30 stitches per second and do it with the quiet ease of a Janome. The machines are built to perform under the rigors of a professional setting, such as dry cleaning and alteration shops where repetitive seams are standard and quick turnaround is a must. Garment sewers will love the precise power through all types of fabric and the large (9 x 5), clean bed space free of oil holes. Quilters and home dec sewers will enjoy the project-finishing speed. Everything on the 1600P Series machines is built for speed, starting with the bobbin. First, the independent bobbin winder works separately from the main motor, allowing the user to fill the next bobbin while sewing. Second, you can remove and replace the bobbin from the side, so you don't have to move your work from under the needle. A knee lift allows you to raise the presser foot while keeping your hands on your work. At speeds of over 1,000 stitches per minute it's vital the thread feeds smoothly. To achieve this, the 1600P Series has a Pre-Tension Thread Regulator that takes the kinks out of the thread even before it goes through the tension mechanism. To help the operator cope with all that speed, Janome has developed the Liquid Response Foot Control. With 30% more range of motion than a standard foot control and a remarkably smooth feel, the user always feels in control. It's possible to accelerate up to top speed in one fluid motion and then slow to a stop with equal smoothness. Janome America is the largest subsidiary of Janome Sewing Machine Company of Tokyo, which produces more than one million sewing machines annually as well as a line of related sewing products and embroidery software. It is a category leader in innovation, and Janome sewing machines are recognized throughout the industry for their ease-of-use and unsurpassed stitch quality.

All Brands communication speed is beyond compare, and they totally backed up their "find it lower?" promise, without any amount of red tape and complications. I sent them the link, and the next day, I had an actual person emailing me back with AllBrands commitment to match price. I purchased my serger through AllBrands as well, and had exceptional phone communication with a rep when I had questions about the item. I highly recommend AllBrands, it is the first place I go when I am in search of anything sewing related!

Bobbie, the only machine I would recommend is the Janome 1600P DBX commercial grade longarm with all metal bobbin case and industrial style full rotary hook underneath at Janome 1600P DB 5.5x9" Longarm Straight Stitch Sewing & Quilting, Uses DBx1 Needles, 25/2Yr Warranty It is heavy duty and a real workhorse with ball bearings on either end of the main shaft to prevent future binds ( no other brands has these). It only does straight stitch but goes up to 1600 stitches per minute, twice as fast as regular home machines. Zigag portables all run under 1000SPM, but you can use your regular Janomes for that. It is more expensive than your $300 budget, but you will never need to replace it. It also has speed limit control on board, automatic thread trimmers, needle positioning up or down, dual lights, and uses industrial needles DBx1 like the factory machines. Hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any questions. John
