    The Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ-1 sewing machine is a straight stitch/zigzag sewing machine (Patent #6499415) featuring a mechanical walking presser foot that moves forward and back in time with the feed dog to ensure that the layers of fabric are consistently moving together through the machine. The result is that heavy, bulky and even sticky fabrics like leather and window material are easily sewn with consistently symmetrical stitch lengths.

    Sewn stitches can be made extra long (up to 6mm) with the variable stitch length mechanism on the Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ-1 sewing machine. This reduces needle pucker for professional quality upholstery and canvas sewing. Zigzag stitches can be made up to 5mm wide and can be spaced tightly enough to bind edges (on a carpet for example). The LSZ-1's unusually wide 19mm zigzag walking foot creates a large, positive contact between the foot, the feed dog and the fabric itself. The Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ-1 sewing machine walks over thick hems and makes the transition from thick to thin without skipping stitches.

    Excellent power is provided by a 110 VAC motor that develops 6600 rpm at 1.5 amps and a cogged belt and pulley drive system. In addition, a special large diameter balance wheel (the PowerPlus wheel) slows the machine down and dramatically enhances power. This wheel has been specially designed to work with our Posi-Pin clutching system. The Posi-Pin on the Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ-1 sewing machine is a patent pending direct drive mechanism that results in 100% power transfer from the balance wheel to the machines needle. This novel system is much better than the typical compression clutch which is prone to slippage in heavy materials. Variable speed operation of the sewing machine is provided by an electronic foot control. This is a powerful, well-designed sewing machine.

    Reversing is easy with the lever-activated mechanism, and, because the Ultrafeed sewing machine feeds so well, back-stitching for long distances is possible. A welting tunnel built into the presser foot simplifies piping installation. Ultrafeed machines are great tools for building cushions which have piping-trimmed edges.

    A needle=positioning lever allows for movement of the needle left, right and center, making it possible to install most zippers without changing the presser foot. Even beginning sewers find the Ultrafeed to be a very straightforward, easy-to-learn machine.

Comparisons

Yes, There is a lot of differences between top of the line Sailrite LSZ1 zigzag and entry level priced Alphasew PW200Z. Sailrite is made in the original factory in Taiwan vs China. Sailrite has much better quality parts, assembly and sew in at the factory and again in the USA before they are shipped. Sailrite warranty is 2 years vs 30 days on PW200Z, 24 times longer! Both of these machine look alike, but you certainly get what you pay for with them and pay more than the difference in service or replacement over the life of the machines. F.A.Q.

Is there enough room under the arm of the Ultrafeed LSZ-1 for heavy, bulky fabric assemblies?
 The Ultrafeed's underarm space is similar to that of a home sewing machine; so, learning some of the tricks of the trade is necessary. Basically these entail learning to assemble projects in sections and rolling the least bulky parts for insertion through the arm. Amateurs and professionals alike use a variety of rolling and clamping techniques. Some use metal clamps to hold the fabric as a roll. Others cut carpet roll tubes in sections and slit the sections down their length for "free" clamps. The superb feeding ability of the LSZ-1 also reduces the concern for arm space - the machine really pulls the material through.
Can the Ultrafeed LSZ-1 be used for home sewing?
 Yes, it can. All weights of fabric can be sewn. Of course, ,it is particularly good at sewing the really hard to feed fabrics like wet suit material, leather, denim jeans materials and vinyls. But the machine can also be used on dressmaking materials.
Does the Ultrafeed LSZ-1 use home sewing needles?
 No, it does not. The walking foot needle bar assembly is constructed to industrial standards and requires a "135x17" industrial needle.
Can the Ultrafeed LSZ-1 be used in an RV or on a boat with an inverter?
 A good 250 watt continuous inverter will provide the power needed to run the LSZ-1. The motor is 1.5 amp.
Can a light be added to the Ultrafeed LSZ-1?
 A light can be added easily and at anytime. The machine is predrilled for its installation.
Are there additional accessories for the Ultrafeed LSZ-1?
 Yes, there are left and right zipper presser feet for sewing right next to zippers and 3/4" & 1" binder attachments to make finishing an edge with binding tape easier. NOTE: the standard combo cording/straight stitch presser foot which comes on the machine automatically allows for the installation of cording (piping).
