Hello, Yes, the Ultimate box works on Windows 8 computers. Windows 8 is a 64-bit operating system similar to Windows 7, but it requires the Driver Signature Enforcement to be temporarily disabled in order to install non-Microsoft signed device drivers. This procedure is described in Windows 8 books and is not a work-around or a trick. You may click here to open Win8.pdf instructions
Does The Ultimate Box write to The Ultimate Card, only?
No, The Ultimate Box writes designs to The Ultimate Card version I, II, & III, the Amazing (Magic, Universal Embroidery Translator, Dream Maker, Bernina box) blank card and 512Kilobyte (4Megabit) Brother blank embroidery card.

The card for Brother type (PES) machines that works in one-slot Ultimate boxes and a 2-slot Ultimate Box II is the same Ultimate card, version I. Ultimate card III is for Pfaff and Artista machines and is used in the second slot of Ultimate Box II. Original manufacturer's re-writable cards as well as pre-programmed design cards (read designs and save them to the computer) can be used with all boxes.
Ultimate card, version II is only needed for use with PE-Design (Deco Wizard, Baby Lock Palette) boxes ver. 4.0 and higher and PED-Basic.
I understand that The Ultimate Box reads and saves designs to my computer from the cards it writes to. Are there any other cards that The Ultimate Box can read?
Yes, it reads and saves designs to the hard drive of your computer from most of the preprogrammed Brother type design cards, except copyrighted cards.
I don't have any digitizing software and would like to use designs downloaded from the Internet, floppy or compact disks. Can I use The Ultimate Box?
Yes, The Ultimate Box and The Ultimate Card are all you will need.
I have PE-Design (Palette, Deco Wizard) 4.0 software and the 3.0 version read/write box. I'd like to take advantage of the memory size of The Ultimate Card. Do I also need The Ultimate Box?
You can buy The Ultimate Box complete with The Ultimate card; or you can upgrade your PE-Design(Palette, Deco Wizard) read/write box to a version 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0. and add The Ultimate Card.
Can I use The Ultimate Box with my PE-Design(Palette, Deco Wizard) 3.0 or older software?
The Ultimate Box can be used in conjunction with any version of any embroidery software. You can use that software to edit designs or create new ones and save designs to the hard drive of your computer. The browsing and transferring utility that comes with The Ultimate Box only finds and sends those designs to the blank card.
I'd like to use Buzz Tools or Embird. Do I need any additional software to make it compatible with The Ultimate Box?
No, any software used in conjunction with The Ultimate Box will give you a perfect package.
Which design formats are supported by The Ultimate Box?
ART, PCS, PES, PEC, HUS
What is the difference between The Ultimate Box and the Amazing(Magic, Universal Embroidery Translator, Dream Maker, Bernina box) Box?
The major difference is that The Ultimate Box writes as many designs to the blank card as it can hold, while Amazing box can only write up to 6 designs. The Ultimate Box will also read and save designs back from the card to the hard drive, which tested versions of the Amazing box could not do. The Ultimate Box has only one card slot for Brother type cards, while the Amazing Box has four card slots for different brands of sewing machines.
When writing to the Amazing (Magic, Universal Embroidery Translator, Dream Maker, Bernina) blank card, will The Ultimate Box be able to write only 6 designs?
No, The Ultimate Box writes as many designs as the Amazing (Magic, Universal Embroidery Translator, Dream Maker, Bernina) blank card will hold. You are not limited to 6 designs anymore!
What is the difference between The Ultimate Box and PE-Design (Palette, Deco Wizard) read/write module?
The Ultimate Box works in conjunction with any embroidery software,or without it. PE-Design(Palette, Deco Wizard) read/write box does not work without PE Design software and vice versa.
Do I have to use The Ultimate Box and The Ultimate Card as a package, or can they function separately?
If you have already spent your money on a PE-Design (Palette, Deco Wizard) 4.0 read/write module, you can take full advantage of the benefits of The Ultimate Card without buying The Ultimate Box.
I already own a blank card for the Amazing (Magic, Universal Embroidery Translator, Dream Maker, Bernina) Box and would like to use The Ultimate Box to write to it. Do I also have to buy The Ultimate Card?
If the memory size of the blank Amazing (Magic, Universal Embroidery Translator, Dream Maker, Bernina) card satisfy your needs you can just use The Ultimate Box to write more than 6 designs to it. If you would like to have a larger card, then The Ultimate Card is the answer.
I only have a USB port available on my computer and no serial pot. What should I do?
You will need to buy a USB to serial converter cable. It will solve the problem.
Is The Ultimate box for you? Just got your new machine and feeling a rush to embroider as many of those beautiful designs as soon as possible? Don't want to spend a substantial amount of money on preprogrammed design cards, each containing just a few designs on them? Would like to download and use designs from the Internet (often free) or buy them on the floppy or compact disks?
Then, The Ultimate Box and The Ultimate Card (re-writible blank card) are all you need! You already have some experience in embroidery. Would like to edit, re-size, split designs or digitize the originals? Choose the software that fits your needs and budget among many different titles available for the shareware or trial versions to a couple hundred dollars for a full version embroidery software. And again, any software used in conjunction with The Ultimate Box and The Ultimate Card provides you with all the necessary tools! Finally, if you are an expert digitizer and embroidery has become your business, your addiction, or both; you want to be on the leading edge of embroidery technology using top of the line products. You've spent several thousand dollars on the most sophisticated and expensive software. Now, add The Ultimate Box and The Ultimate Card and you have a perfect match!
The Ultimate Box and The Ultimate Card are about freedom. The freedom to choose which software to use, how many designs to transfer to the card, and how large those designs will be. What does The Ultimate Box do? The Ultimate Box is a read/write device that transfers embroidery designs from a hard drive of your computer to a re-writable blank embroidery card that fits your Brother, Baby Lock, Bernina Deco, Simplicity and Viking/Husqvarna machines.

The Ultimate Box II writes to The Ultimate Card, Version I, II, and III, Amazing (Magic) blank card and 512K (4 Megabit) Blank Brother card. The Ultimate Box reads and saves designs back to the hard drive of your computer from the above blank cards and most pre-programmed design cards.

Will Embird work with anything, but the Ultimate Box? Since the Ultimate Box is the security device for the Embird software, it won’t work with any other box, is that correct?
Yes, that is correct. The registrations will activate the Embird versions that require Ultimate Box as a dongle.
Why does Embird only work with some of the Artista models?
At this time it will only work with Artista models 200 and newer. Even original Artista cards for 185 and older models cannot be used in Artista 200 and up.

Used my Ultimate Box to put some designs on the card, work great. Very satisfied, I will be telling people about your web-site. Thank You!

I hav'nt hooked up the box yet, setting up another computer, but everything looks great. Your descriptions were really good. I had a hard time figuring out which box to get for my Viking Rose but the lady on customer service figured that out.

*As per our telephone conversation, I’d like to summarize the situation with Embird software. Embird has released their new software version 2006. Existing users of version 2004 can purchase an upgrade to 2006 for $30.00. New users would pay $129.00 direct from Embird for version 2006. When asked, Embird requested from us the same $30.00 to upgrade our registrations from 2004 to 2006. There are several possible solutions to this situation: 1. Everybody will pay additional $30.00 and sell Embird 2006 for $129.00 direct from Embird. 2. Sell existing registrations at a discounted price of $69, notifying customers that they only work with Embird version 2004. Thanks, Alex 10/30/06
