At this years embroidery party we have been stitching one of these flowers in class. The project goes along with a contest of which group can be the most creative. I am always amazed at what our attendee’s stuff into their flowers. We decided to create not only 20 freestanding flowers but also 20 quilt blocks to go with them. Each flower design uses assorted confetti to match the color of the flower; the end result is truly beautiful; you will love creating these designs.

Twice a year we all go on a trip and bring all of our ideas and inspirations and talk about design ideas for a few days. The atmosphere is very creative with lots of drawing and sketching. You can see the actual process in our Hardcover Book “Anita Goodesign through the years” This new Grecian Garden collection was designed at our latest retreat. We’ve always loved the embossed details on pottery and cameos, especially Wedgwood pottery. The stark contrast of the white on blue is always striking. There are 20 main designs and they each come in 2 sizes, there are also 13 isolated smaller designs. The collection has everything from cameos, to flowers, leaves, grapes and classic Greek designs. The designs will look elegant and lovely on whatever you stitch them on. 53 Designs Total – for the 5”x 5”, 6”x 10”, and 8”x 12” hoops.

Fabric inspired this collection. Ombre or graduated color is very popular in both fashion and home decor so you are starting to see this color style available in quilting fabric, which is wonderful. If you had to choose 20 different shades of the same color it would be difficult, luckily it has been done for us and there are fat quarter bundles available in many different ombre color variations. When I saw this fabric I immediately thought, “How can I use these designs in a quilt?” Subway tiles immediately came to mind since they are rectangles and will allow you to blend the colors in a shorter space as opposed to using a square. Once the concept was in place we created 16 different quilted themes and these themes each come in 4 shapes. You can mix the themes together or create an entire quilt using only 1 theme. The end result will be visually striking embroidered quilt.

This is a beautiful floral quilt that is perfect for spring and summer. We love fat quarter bundles and that is what we used to choose fabric for this collection. The collection was 90% finished when we decided to do something different with it. In addition to spring colors, we decided to create the designs with shades of white and grey with color pops of fluorescent thread. We have had those bright fluorescent colors in our thread library for years and never had the opportunity to use them. When they are used as color pops they look great. Which color way will you like better? 25 different blocks in 5 sizes each.

The latest fad in holiday gatherings for the last few years has been Ugly Christmas Sweater parties! There are contests to see who is wearing the ugliest holiday sweater, and boy, there are some doozies. We wanted to create our own ugly sweaters, and had a big art meeting to figure out how to do it. Believe it or not, this was a tough collection to design. At Anita Goodesign, we are so used to creating beautiful embroidery designs that it was daunting to design something intentionally ugly. Then we had the idea to create a series of designs and borders that, by themselves, are actually quite nice, but, when combined together with embellishments and trims, they turn out, well, rather ugly. There are Christmas unicorns, elves, snowmen, and other Christmas favorites. You will have a lot of fun with these designs. Since the designs are actually beautiful, you do not have to create an ugly sweater, you can create a nice one. I have only one question: I wonder if the first ugly Christmas sweater was done on purpose?
