Meet the Instructor Natalie Dowd: Natalie’s professional background was in graphic design and worked at the Texas Senate as a graphic designer for 20 years until retirement in 2022. However, her formal training and major was in Drama Education. She earned a BFA in Secondary Education. This is where she found a love for sewing by learning to sew costumes at the University of Texas. Though, she is mostly self-taught, she took as many opportunities to learn and hone her sewing skills. Natalie took every “Stretch & Sew” class offered and joined sewing clubs around Austin. Natalie was also a semi-professional dancer and designed and sewed all her own costumes including: folklorico, flamenco, jazz, ballet, belly dance, and Hawwaiian costumes. She also worked as a tailor apprentice for a year at a local tailor shop to learn more sewing techniques and procedures. Today, she wants to help others learn the fun and satis- fying experience of sewing something that can be reused over and over.
