Embroidering with a needle that
is too small or too big for the thread and/or fabric may result in thread breaks or skipped stitches.
There are three things to consider when choosing the right needle for the job: fi nish, size and point.
DBxK5 is an established standard system for machine embroidery. This style needle has a medium
point with a larger eye, which allows the thread to fl ow smoothly and helps reduce thread breaks. Its
only downfall is that it is slightly less durable due to its thinner eye wall. For stretch materials, use
ballpoints. For cottons, use sharp-points.
DBx7ST is ideal for metallic threads. It has an extremely large rectangular eye that allows for easy
passage of thread. You may also use size 80/12 needles for metallic threads.

The chrome finish (CF) reduces heat and wear and aids in slipping through the fabric. This needle has a regular point. The ELX705 needle system is specially designed for cover stitch machines. The HLX5 Chrome and/or PD Titanium is in reality a step up from the Schmetz 130/705H-J since they are an “Industrial Needle” with a flat shank. Keep in mind that the Schmetz 130/705H-J points are medium ball point so you might want to use the HLX5 in BP in chrome & PD. The HAX130EBBR can also be used in place of the Schmetz Jeans as they too have a reinforced blade and are automatically ball point.

Embroidering with a needle that
is too small or too big for the thread and/or fabric may result in thread breaks or skipped stitches.
There are three things to consider when choosing the right needle for the job: fi nish, size and point.
DBxK5 is an established standard system for machine embroidery. This style needle has a medium
point with a larger eye, which allows the thread to fl ow smoothly and helps reduce thread breaks. Its
only downfall is that it is slightly less durable due to its thinner eye wall. For stretch materials, use
ballpoints. For cottons, use sharp-points.
DBx7ST is ideal for metallic threads. It has an extremely large rectangular eye that allows for easy
passage of thread. You may also use size 80/12 needles for metallic threads.
