    Floriani National Educator Shinae Farrar

will be lecturing on the Fundamentals of Stabilizer, Thread, Designs, Software and Embroidery Digitizing.

Shinae was not new to sewing, quilting, or embroidery when she joined the Floriani Team. In fact she began her love of sewing as a young girl playing with her mother’s sewing machine at the age of 9 and occasionally assisted her grandmother with the use of her treadle machine. Shinae’s mother soon realized her daughter had a unique creative ability and gift when it came to sewing. Eventually she began working in a quilt shop and that was when her passion for sewing truly flourished. Almost instantly Shinae advanced from making clothes to quilting, but when she was introduced to embroidery, she knew she had found her passion in life! Soon she had a home based embroidery business, where she could challenge her creative ability almost daily.  This is where she discovered Floriani Products, and fell in love with Floriani Quality. In only a short amount of time she joined the Floriani Team of Professional Educators helping to share the news of how Floriani had helped her perfect her embroidery process. Today, Shinae travels coast to coast helping people who love to sew, quilt, and embroider make their hobby more fun and with less stress. When she is not on the road, she is busy being mom to 4 children that are her pride and joy.  You will absolutely love Shinae’s down to earth, never met a stranger personality (which she attributes to her mom), and you will be amazed by her creativity. Join her educational event for a very uplifting and inspiring class that will leave you with new ideas to make your hobby more enjoyable.

MEET BROTHER NATIONAL EDUCATOR JERRY GRANATA

Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! interview with Jerry Granata: The Houston Quilt Show Interview: Jerry Granata talks to TQS about his award winning quilt, Fly Me to the Moon.

The Quilt Show: Trailer 1503 - Jerry Granata

Jerry Granata has had a love of art since he was a child and it has taken him in many directions. He served 21 years in the Armed Forces of the United States as a U.S. Navy musician serving in such places as Naples, Italy; Seattle, Washington; Washington D.C; and Chicago, Illinois.

While in high school, he made costumes for the National Marionette Company—an experience that taught him that no fabric is off limits, even for quilting. The trick is in knowing how to tame it, and in this show, Jerry reveals the huge variety of unusual fabrics available to quilters (think leather, lamé, fake fur, upholstery), where to find them, which to use when, how to prepare them, work with them, and even quilt them. We wrap with a tour of our day's location, The Witte Museum in San Antonio, TX, where Jerry—for 21 years a professional musician with the United States Navy—provides the soundtrack on his RED saxophone.

His musical journey has given him the opportunity to perform as a pit musician in many theatres on Broadway in New York. He has also performed for several U.S. Presidents and Heads of State at the White House, as well as many celebrities such as Bob Hope, Brook Shields, Tony Bennett, Diana Ross, Styx, and many others.

His interest in the fine arts led him to studies in drawing, design, and oil painting. He has explored and enjoyed all sewing techniques including garment construction, costumes, embellishing, heirloom sewing, hand and machine embroidery, quilt piecing, appliqué, and free-motion quilting.

Jerry has appeared on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, and Fons & Porters Love of Quilting. He brings a passion for quilting, sewing, and teaching, with a dash of humor, to all levels from beginner to advanced. His diverse background can be found woven in his local, regional, national, and international award winning quilts.

• Years of training in embroidery machine installation
• Successful embroidery business owner for decades while employed full-time!

Paulette has operated her own successful embroidery business for decades, while also working almost full-time as a Sewing and Embroidery Educational consultant. She'll teach you how to set pricing, how to find customers, where to purchase "blanks" and much more. Don't miss this fun and inspirational seminar.

Paulette Bell currently is a freelance educator for Brother International, Home
Appliance Division, specializing in commercial embroidery and training.

"I have been involved in the commercial embroidery industry for 25 years as an instructor for commercial embroidery equipment and embroidery software, trade show director, shop owner and most recently editor of Stitches Magazine.

Embroidery is my art/creative outlet and I also pursue it as a side business. I also create craft projects along side the commercial sellable products. I have been a weaver, and currently I enjoy beading, embroidery and sewing."

"I come from a multi generation family of sewing enthusiasts. I learned at an early age the value of creating my own look and style under the tutelage of my grandmother and her sewing machine. My career has spanned sewing/embroidery machine sales, embroidery supply sales, training/installation of embroidery equipment, trade show management, applications expert and former editor/managing editor of Stitches Magazine. Currently I am a freelance educational consultant for a major sewing machine manufacturer."

"Why would anyone would want to embroider something that is already embroidered, you may ask? My initial response is because one can make the item more personal, which, in turn, makes it even more special to the recipient of such a gift. A quick inspection of the retail market reveals many embroidered items. Why not embellish those pieces with your own monogram or stock design and create a memorable piece? With a little investigation, imagination and creativity, we can attain our goal."

Join this energizing class taught by our enlightening Brother instructor, Paulette Bell. This is a lecture demo and truck show of the multi-needle machines and business ideas from Brother. You will see and hear how these machines can help you begin your business. You will figure out how this machine can sew on things, for example, tops and shoes that are exceptionally hard to do on flatbed home machines. You will get Information on where to acquire supplies and proposals for beginning a business. We are accessible to help you regularly with your embroidery business.

In the mid 1990’s Coleen become fascinated with machine embroidery. It was love at first sight. She loves every aspect of embroidery from digitizing to seeing the design stitched out on the finished item. Coleen started with the earliest version of embroidery software and enjoys the many new advanced features and ease of use that are available in software today. If an item can be embroidered – she’s probably embroidered on it.

MEET THE BROTHER NATIONAL EDUCATOR PAULETTE BELL

Who is Paulette Bell?

• Commercial embroidery instructor of 25 years
• Former trade show director
• Former Managing Editor of Stitches Magazine
• Years of training in embroidery machine installation
• Successful embroidery business owner for decades while employed full-time!

Paulette has operated her own successful embroidery business for decades, while also working almost full-time as a Sewing and Embroidery Educational consultant. Learn from Paulette how you can start your own part-time or full-time business and earn money with embroidery.

Spring and Fall. The first class in the Spring will be a one day hands on event which will be centered on
getting to know your SNC, an introduction to the *Canvas Software and creating registration marks in
Canvas for a layered adhesive vinyl project. The class will start from taking your SNC out of the box,
going through all of the buttons, features and settings of the machine to adding designs from the built in
data base to scanning your mat in and then cutting out the designs. We will then begin an introduction
to the Canvas Software in which you will learn how to use the features of the software, how to bring in
outside designs and/or pictures and then to save your designs. The software/project portion of the class
will be on creating registration marks in the Canvas Software, applying them to a layered adhesive vinyl
design and then cutting them out, layering the project and then applying to a mug, cup or yeti or your
    choice.

If you are an existing SNC owner, please bring your machine along with all of your accessories (mats,
weeding tools, spatulas, etc.). You will also need a laptop or tablet for the software portion of the class.
If you do not own a SNC, we will provide one for you to use for the class.
Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to spend the day getting to know your SNC, gain valuable
knowledge and experience for your ongoing projects. You will leave inspired with new techniques,
software knowledge and the memories you will have of working with and getting to know new friends.
The fall classes will be a one day event wherein you will make three to four projects which will be
determined at a later date. During the Spring Classes, suggestions and ideas of what you would like to
learn/make in the Fall classes will be discussed.
