Chapter of the Month

Baton Rouge, LA

Each of our 96 chapters across the country has some great ideas for success! This month, we'd like to feature our Baton Rouge Chapter, lead by Sharon Hicks, who sends us amazing pictures of children receiving quilts at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.

Recently, John M. Douthat, founder, and Blaine Austin, CEO, of Allbrands, have stepped up to offer support for Quilts for Kids. Giving back to the community has always been a massive part of who they are, since their founding in 1976. Working with Gwenae Darden, Allbrands Education Director and Events Coordinator, Sharon led a fabric drive with surprisingly good results. The four kits put together by Gwenae sold immediately and were donated back to the Baton Rouge Chapter...and gift certificates totaling $250 were donated from customers.

Their first fabric drive resulted in gift certificates totaling $250 for the chapter. Allbrands will also be hosting twice-monthly workshops at their five locations in southern Louisiana, helping Sharon get the word out about Quilts for Kids.

A relationship with a community fabric store/sewing machine dealer can prove invaluable to a chapter in terms of resources, volunteers and publicity. Think about fostering relationships like this one in your community.

A few days later, working with Gwenae Darden, Allbrands Education Director and Events Coordinator, Sharon led a fabric drive with surprisingly good results. The four kits put together by Gwenae sold immediately and were donated back to the Baton Rouge Chapter...and gift certificates totaling $250 were donated from customers.
