Step 2. Ship your machine insured to Allbrands.com, Attn: Service Department, 20415 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, La. 70817. Pack in original carton with all styrofoam and double boxed, or wrap in 5" of heavy bubble wrap and double boxed. Include your foot control, bobbin case, bobbin, power cord, thread, needles and fabric samples, hooped fabric with stabilizer, copies of any prior repair tickets, printouts of our email communication, order confirmation, and any written documents regarding the sewing problems you are having with your machine.
Step 3. We will service and ship your repaired machine back pre-paid and insured. If mechanical adjustments or parts are needed, our mechanics will email or call you for approval of estimates above our minimum service charges. Our charges includes removing covers, cleaning, oiling, replacing covers, and balancing thread tension in sew off. Our average repair bill includes and average of 2 mechanical or electronic adjustments
If your machine cannot be repaired or you do not want to pay for any additional parts or installation required,
the 25 dollar prepaid shipping charge will be used to return your portable machine to you un-repaired.
Why do I need to have my sewing machine serviced?
There are many moving parts in a sewing machine and if it moves, it needs lubrication. These days many of the moving parts are housed with computer circuit boards and wires around them. Our Sewing machine technicians are factory trained to maintain and service computerized sewing machines.
For best performance and years of sewing, our technicians suggest you have your machine serviced annually. Below is our 24-Point Tune-Up Checklist and a list of Sewing Machine Performance Tips that our technicians suggest between services.
Sewing Machine Performance Tips:
Keep your machine covered when not using it. Household dust, lint and pet hair can enter your machine in one of it's many openings causing all types of problems.
Keep your machine away from direct sunlight, high/low temperatures and humidity.
Use the right needle for your project and change your needle every 3 to 4 hours of sewing or after every other project. The needle is the major culprit for most sewing problems.
Use good quality thread.
Use bobbins made specifically for your machine and make sure your bobbin thread is wound tight and no loose threads are hanging.
DO NOT SEW OVER PINS! Your needle may break, you could damage the hook or pieces of the needle could fly up into your face.
Do not use canned air on your machine or blow into your machine. The lint is just being pushed further into the machine and you are spraying moisture into your machine which can cause corrosion or damage your circuit boards
Clean the bobbin area frequently. Refer to manual for instructions.
Have a 24 Point Inspection completed, at a qualified repair center, on your sewing machine once a year to keep it performing like new for years to come.

15 Reasons Why a Sewing Machine Needle Breaks by Sewing Mastery, Heirloom CreationsA sewing machine needle can break for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is operator error and sometimes it can be the wrong needle for the fabric. If you have experienced a rash of broken needles within a short amount of time, see if one of the following situations relates to you and learn how to overcome the problem.
Thread Catches on the Spool
Some thread brands have these lovely thread holders notched in the edge of the spool. Handy, yes, but if the thread spool is laying on its side it can catch in the groove, pull the thread tight and SNAP the sewing machine needle. To avoid this, be sure to stand this type of thread up using a vertical thread pin.
Thread Wraps Around the Spool Cap:
For threads that need a horizontal spool pin and a spool cap to hold them in place, the thread can get caught between the thread spool and the cap. Though a spool cap is necessary to keep the thread in place, it must be pushed into place so there is no gap for the thread to catch between the two. This is one of the reasons I prefer using a thread stand.

In just a few seconds you can verify your bobbin tension is where it should be to achieve optimum results. It's simple to use and comes with complete instructions. No setup is required. It's ready to use right out of the box.
How to Use a Bobbin Tension Gauge
Take the guess work out of setting thread tensions.
Using thread tension gauges makes it easy to adjust both bobbin and upper tensions. It's quick, easy and will help you eliminate unsightly bobbin thread showing on top, looping top stitches and thread breaks. Your embroidery will look its best with consistent, balanced thread tensions. Here's how to use a bobbin tension gauge to take the tension out of setting tensions!
Instructions for Use:
- Remove the bobbin case from your machine. Be sure the bobbin thread is out of the pigtail and place your bobbin case with the bobbin in it into the gauge slot. Snap the bobbin case in place.
- Wrap the bobbin thread around the two pulley wheels and around the plastic hook end on the gauge.
- Steadily pull the thread and note the reading on the gauge. This represents tension readings in grams. Correct bobbin tensions should be 180 to 220 grams (up to 250 grams when embroidering caps).
- Please Note: If your gauge is shown in units of 10's, the correct bobbin tensions should be 18 to 22 grams (up to 25 grams when embroidering caps.)
- Adjust the bobbin case spring tension screw as needed to get the desired reading.
Note: The gauge needle should provide a steady reading. If you experience a bouncing, erratic reading it can bedue to a dirty or defective bobbin case.
Tip: Slide a business card back and forth under the bobbin tension spring to clear any dirt.
Once you have adjusted your thread tensions, it's always a good idea to run tests.
- First run a fill stitch test pattern.
- If you experience any top stitch looping, slowly tighten the main upper tension knob until this looping goes away (looping can also occur if your bobbin tension is too tight).
- Proper tensions for satin stitches should reveal 1/3 bobbin and 2/3 top thread color on the underside of the embroidery.
Note: Too much bobbin showing on the underside and/or showing on the topside usually means either the bobbin tension is too loose or the top thread tension is too tight.

- Pull approximately 6 inches of thread through the needle and presser foot.
- Wrap the thread around the gauge hook (sometimes it's necessary to wrap it
several times so it won't slip).
- Steadily pull the gauge towards you with the window of the barrel facing up.
- As you pull, take note of the reading. These represent tension readings in grams. Polyester threads require higher tensions than Rayon. Polyester tensions 120 to 150 grams. Rayon tensions 100 to 120 grams.
- Adjust your machine main tension knob until you get the desired reading.
Once you have adjusted your thread tensions, it's always a good idea to run tests.
- First run the fill stitch test pattern.
- If you experience any top stitch looping, slowly tighten the main upper tension knob until this looping goes away (looping can also occur if your bobbin tension is too tight).

Step 1. Purchase the 299.99 dollar minimum charge repair service. We will email you an Authorization Number to put on the outside of the head box or machine crate for easy identification.
Step 2. Ship your machine insured to Allbrands.com, Attn: Service Department, 20415 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, La. 70817. Pack in original carton with all styrofoam and double boxed, or wrap in 5-10" of heavy bubble wrap and double boxed. Include your bobbin case, bobbin, power cord, thread, needles and fabric samples, hooped fabric with stabilizer, copies of any prior repair tickets, printouts of our email communication, order confirmation, and any written documents regarding the sewing problems you are having with your machine.
Step 3. We will service and ship your repaired machine back insured. If mechanical adjustments or parts are needed, our mechanic will email or call you for approval of estimates above our $299 dollar minimum service charge. Our minimum charge includes removing any outside covers, cleaning, oiling, replacing covers, and balancing thread tension in sew off. Our average repair bill is $250 dollars including at least one mechanical or electronic adjustment.
If your machine cannot be repaired or you do not want to pay for any additional mechanical and electronic adjustments or parts required, we will send you a store credit for the 199 dollars to be used for any online purchase, including a replacement. Sewing Machine Lubricants
Preventive Maintenance, General recommendation. Always use service manual where available.
The proper maintenance of an Industrial sewing machine is important for several reasons. A. It will increase the overall life of the sewing machine. B. It will keep the sewing machine running at its maximum performance rate. C. It will maintain the integrity of the stitch which guarantees the quality of the product that is being sewn. D. Last but not least it will keep the operator happy. And we all know what that means.
1. Oil all bushings in the casting of the machine. Usually by means of an access hole. If the machine is relying on a wicking system all of the wicks need to be inspected and placed in the proper position to maintain oil flow. Also check the oil level if reservoirs are present.
2. Keep machines clean of material particles which can act as an abrasive to machine parts. Blow out machine and spray clean parts with WD-40 or similar product. Note: WD-40 does not take the place of oil but will keep the machine clean and rust free. Always oil machines after cleaning and take care to use a minimal amount. Usually one drop of oil is needed in each hole per 8 hrs of sewing time. It is further recommended that manual machines need one drop of oil to the hook assembly after each bobbin change. For machines with an automatic or enclosed oiling system, the oil pump, screen and hoses should be inspected monthly to be sure proper lubrication is taking place.
3. Maintenance related to the sewing machine motor or stand. Check motor belt tension, clean pulleys of any thread or debris that may be found in belt guards. Clean motor and or motor filter that allow motors to breath properly. Check for loose wires and or connections that can cause shorts or electrical shock including lights.
4. Maintenance that will ensure proper stitch formation and machine performance. Check adjustment on take up spring. Clean residue from tension disk. Inspect thread guides, screws etc. for burrs. Replace needle per 8 hrs of actual sew time or routinely at the beginning of the week. The cost of a needle is not worth the problems that occur when a needle is defective. Check feed dog and or throat plate hole for burrs. Take off feed dog and sand the bottom part of the hole. Check the middle foot on a walking foot machine to be sure no burrs or on the bottom side of the hole. Also adjust bobbin case basket opener and inspect throat plate. No sharp points should be on the throat plate where the basket tab goes into the throat that keeps the bobbin case in its standard position for sewing.
5. These adjustments and inspections should be done by a qualified technician about every 3 to 6 months. However the operator should be responsible for the oiling and cleaning that is to be done on a daily basis. It is important that a check list be made for the operator so she fully understands the proper procedure for checking and oiling the machines.
Note: by no means is this a comprehensive guide to maintaining all sewing machines but it is a good start to understanding and making a beginning of a reliable sewing machine preventive maintenance program.
