The manual machine platform adjusts easily, and its open-front design accommodates most serger and sewing machines up to 40 lbs. With the machine platform and side leaf in place, Eleanor gives you over 8 square feet of space for cutting, piecing, or just spreading out. Specifications
A cutting mat is NOT a ruler and should not be used for precise measuring.
- Why? Because of the coefficient of expansion. Basically mats are made of a soft plastic, so they have a
greater chance of expanding and contracting in different weather. Rulers are always made of acrylic which has a much, much smaller coefficient of expansion. As a matter of fact the coefficient of expansion on rulers is so small as to be practically non-existent for a quilter’s purpose.
- You should be using your ruler to measure precisely, and should be using the same ruler throughout the
project which is something every top quilt instructor teaches.
- Mats should be used only for general measuring and for cutting. They should never be used for precise
measurements.

The custom insert is a piece of plastic or Plexiglas that is cut to fit your specific brand and model of sewing machine. The Insert is used when the sewing machine is in the Flat-Bed Mode, this is when the needle plate of the sewing machine is level with the top of the cabinet. The machine fits the platform of the cabinet in flatbed position (a custom insert is available) but you will have to move the sewing machine from right to left to lower into the storage position because of the extension of the front support leg of the machine. Also, the knee lifter lever cannot be used with a sewing cabinet due to the length of the lever and how machine sits on the platform in flatbed position.

Phillips screwdriver with #2 head or power screwdriver
Hammer or mallet
Optional: WD-40 or Adjustable wrench

Please note: The Janome Horizon Memory Craft 15,000 fits the platform of the cabinet in flatbed position (a custom insert is available) but you will have to move the sewing machine from right to left to lower into the storage position because of the extension of the front support leg of the machine. Also, the knee lifter lever cannot be used with a sewing cabinet due to the length of the lever and how machine sits on the platform in flatbed position.
